George Washington's Birthplace
When George was born on February 22nd, 1732 the place he called home had been around for three quarters of a century. That’s 75 years! The Washington’s were farmers and slave owners. They planted all kinds of things. One of those things was tobacco. His half-brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather are buried nearby. George Washington was a Virginia delegate for the Second Continental Congress in 1775. He became president in 1788. He retired his presidency in 1797. Years later on Christmas Day 1779 the house burned to the ground. Sadly, the family never rebuilt the house so all that is left is the foundation that has been discovered and preserved.
